Firefighters from Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department recently participated in a regional elevator rescue training program alongside members of Kennedy Township, Neville Township, Coraopolis, and East Carnegie Fire Departments.

The hands-on training focused on the safe and effective rescue of individuals who become trapped in elevators. Throughout the day, firefighters worked through a variety of rescue scenarios designed to simulate the challenges they may encounter during real-world emergencies.

Participants learned and practiced specialized techniques used to assess elevator incidents, access stalled elevator cars, communicate with occupants, and safely remove individuals from potentially hazardous situations. Training on these unique emergencies helps ensure responders are prepared to act quickly while prioritizing the safety of both occupants and rescue personnel.

Training with neighboring departments also strengthens mutual aid relationships and provides firefighters with the opportunity to share knowledge, experience, and best practices while working together in realistic scenarios.

While elevator rescues may not occur every day, they require specialized skills and training when they do happen. Programs like this help ensure firefighters remain prepared to respond effectively whenever the need arises.

If you ever find yourself stuck in an elevator, you can rest assured that highly trained firefighters from Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department and its mutual aid partners are ready to respond and assist.
