Inflatable Fire Safety House Program

Hands-on fire safety education for kids and families

About the Program

The Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department utilizes an Inflatable Fire Safety House as part of its community risk reduction and fire prevention efforts.

This interactive, walk-through experience is designed to teach children—and reinforce for families—how to stay safe in the event of a fire. By simulating real-life situations in a controlled environment, participants gain practical knowledge they can apply at home.

Why It Matters

Fire safety education is most effective when it’s interactive and memorable. This program allows participants to practice what to do in a fire before an emergency ever happens.

By reaching children early and involving families, Forest Grove is helping build safer homes and a more prepared community.

A large green-and-gray inflatable house sits outside a building. Orange cones, a fire extinguisher, and a sign reading “Forest Grove Fire” are nearby. Toys and tires are visible in the foreground.

Who It’s For

This program is primarily designed for:

  • Elementary-aged students
  • Schools and educational groups
  • Families and community events

Where You’ll See It

Currently, the Inflatable Fire Safety House is used during:

  • Annual fire safety education programs at Montour Elementary School
  • Robinson Autumn Fest

The department also plans to incorporate the program into:

  • Annual open house events at the station
  • Additional outreach to local elementary schools and community groups

What Participants Learn

The inflatable house is set up in multiple rooms, each focused on a different aspect of fire safety:

  • Kitchen Safety & Smoke Detectors
Learn about common kitchen hazards and the importance of working smoke alarms.
  • Fire Hazards & Prevention
Covers topics such as candle safety, proper use of fire extinguishers, and general home fire safety practices.
  • Fire Escape Planning
Participants practice how to safely exit a home during a fire, including using a window as an emergency escape.

This hands-on approach helps reinforce key safety messages in a way that is engaging and easy to understand.
